ObjectiveOur Objective is very simple:
It is obviously very important that "everyone" includes our politicians, world leaders and influential members of the establishment. We are not advocating a particular solution, simply that supporters accept the constraints and burdens necessary for attempting solutions. MethodologyThe campaign is an exercise in national networking. We ask supporters to commit to the campaign and to work at propagating the campaign by persuading their friends, relatives and contacts to join and carry it on. Our approach is to present the facts briefly, accurately and forcefully by means of our campaign leaflet and additional information on this web site. If you have arrived at this web site by chance, please have a look at our Main Campaign Leaflet to see why we believe that the problem of Global Warming is very serious. We are a member of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition.
“Without urgent action climate change will devastate life on Earth. Hundreds of millions of people, particularly the world’s poorest and most vulnerable, will be put at risk of extreme weather, drought, flooding, starvation and disease. Therefore, I demand of the Prime Minister that the UK plays its part in preventing this devastation. The UK must deliver sustained reductions in its own emissions of the gases that cause climate change and make international action to stop Climate Chaos a top priority. TGWS goes further – we ask you to recognise that:-
TGWS therefore asks you to:-
We hope that you are prepared to commit to the above and to be prepared to support the campaign. For How to support the Campaign <<Click here>>
PA21 is a community group, initiated (in 1995) and supported by the Borough of Poole to promote sustainable development. Government instruction to councils arose as a result of the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 at which the “Agenda for the 21st Century” was signed. (hence Agenda 21). There are other Agenda 21 groups in many other local authority areas, but not all.
There are other campaigns concerning Global Warming but we feel that they are being “so responsible” in resisting the charge of “scare mongering”, and putting forward “feasible" proposals that they fail to be sufficiently frightening. Some campaigns, while very worthy, by proposing small incremental steps fail to bring home the seriousness of the problem. The government has been setting small incremental targets for years – and failing to meet them! In practice we cannot make massive changes in a short time but we do need to be setting out to make massive changes starting now. The other problem with incremental targets is that it is fairly easy to meet them initially but it becomes harder and harder to achieve them, starting small simply enables the system to put off the hard decisions. It is our belief that we should be frightened – we need to be frightened. Sufficiently frightened to be prepared to compel our government to start taking the kind of drastic measures, which are needed if the catastrophe is to be avoided. As part of the SCC coalition we ask supporters by registering to support the common petition. But we also ask supporters to commit in a more major way to raising public awareness of the problem. We ask them to work at finding someone else from their friends and contacts to join and continue the campaign – thus keeping their thread alive. Preferably, of course, to find lots of people, thus initiating new threads and expanding the campaign much more rapidly.
Stop Climate Chaos coalitionTGWS has joined the SCC coalition. This is an umbrella organisation for lots of groups campaigning to persuade the government to do more about global warming. SCC asks supporters to sign up to a common petition to be delivered to the Prime Minister hence this petition now forms part of the commitment we ask our supporters to make. But TGWS goes further than the common petition because we believe that the situation is very serious and that drastic action is needed now. <Click here> to go to the SCC website. Other OrganisationsVarious other organisations have also agreed to endorse our campaign. These are listed under endorsees. We welcome endorsement from other organisations. |
