Home pageRe-launchWe have decided to re-launch the TGWS Campaign. When originally launched we believed that it would grow and grow. That did not happen – perhaps the time was not right. So we try again. If you were originally a member please re-join as a gesture of commitment. We have cleared our counts and previous details. The web-site now attempts to provide a wealth of information about the problems and solutions to the Global Warming crisis. ObjectiveOur Objective remains the same:
It is obviously very important that "everyone" includes our politicians, world leaders and influential members of the establishment. We advocate "Sustainable living". This involves individual lifestyle changes and changes to our technology and social organisation (see "Information articles" on left for ideas and suggestions).
It does involve:-
We do not contend that persuading other people:- to accept the serious state we are in - and to be prepared to accept constraints needed to lessen the risk – is easy. But we believe it is vital. The information content of this web-site is to provide information which may assist in arguing the case.
The campaign is an exercise in networking - like a chain letter, we ask that those who join recruit others. If on average each person recruits not less than one person, the campaign will spread and spread; if it is significantly more than one person the campaign will grow radidly. We hope that this time this will happen. We ask supporters to commit to the campaign and to work at propagating it by persuading their friends, relatives and contacts to join and carry it on. You can use this web-site or the basic leaflet (2 x A4 sides).
It is really quite simple. Governments will not take the tough and potentially unpopular actions that are needed while they feel that there is a lack of support among the general public for those actions.
TGWS asks individuals to accept that the problem is so serious that they are prepared to support governments taking tough actions. It goes on to ask those who accept this proposition to persuade/convince others of this situation so that the message spreads. The best way to persuade other people is not by newspaper and media articles etc. but by personal contact. Everyone knows lots of people, if they can persuade more than one of those people the message/support will spread and spread. Persuading two other people is hard but it is important, probably one of the most important thing most individuals can do. Much more important than re-cycling religiously or going by bus. If we all just sit on our hands the world will die. This campaign can sit comfortably alongside any other campaigning about Global Warming/Climate Change – indeed we would encourage you to get active in your area if you can. But the main thing is to spread the message.
For the campaign to work we need a gesture of support, therefore we ask those who are prepared to do so, to commit themselves to the statement and pledge below: Statement

PA21 is a community group, initiated (in 1995) and supported by the Borough of Poole to promote sustainable development. Because this term frequently misinterpreted as normal development with a green wash applied, we have redefined our objective as the "Promotion of Sustainable Living". Government instruction to councils arose as a result of the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 at which the “Agenda for the 21st Century” was signed (hence Agenda 21). There are not many Agenda 21 groups still in existence - many were subsumed into other organisations or folded. However PA21 has survived and is acquiring increasing influence.
Although Poole Agenda 21 is notionally a local organisation we recognise that Global Warming is the most urgent threat to a sustainable future for everyone. This threat cannot be reduced without modification of the actions of a large part of the total human population. For this reason we campaign nationally and inter-nationally for actions to take place. Some action can be undertaken by individuals but in many areas action by governments is needed to bring about and assist in social change. As we said above a major constraint on action be government is the lack of public support which they perceive for the necessary actions. This campaign aims to do all it can to change this situation.
Stop Climate Chaos coalitionTGWS joined the SCC coalition early in its formation (2006) when we were one of about 15 groups of the coalition. Now there are more that 100 member organisation. SCC is an umbrella organisation for these groups campaigning to persuade the government to do more about global warming. www.stopclimatechaos.org Climate ArkClimate Ark is a project of Ecological Internet, Inc.. Ecological Internet specializes in the use of the Internet to achieve ecological science-based environmental conservation outcomes. Ecological Internet's mission is to empower the global movement for environmental sustainability by providing information retrieval tools, portal services, expert analysis and action opportunities that aid in the protection of climate, forest, ocean and water ecosystems; and to commence the age of ecological sustainability and restoration. www.climateark.org |
